What is the motive power repair and service industry?
The motive power repair and service industry includes automotive repair and service, autobody and collision repair, motorcycle repair, specialty services (eg. transmission, radiator, undercar, etc.) and businesses involved in motor vehicle parts wholesale and retail. Key occupations include Automotive Service Technician, Collision/Autobody Repair Technician, Specialist Technician, Owner/Operator, Service Manager and Parts Manager.

What is CARSability?
CARSability is a cost effective, easy to use web based skills assessment tool designed to identify training gaps for participants in 34 motive power repair and service occupations.
The tool:
- provides immediate and accurate assessments of the true skill levels of personnel
- comprehensively evaluates the qualifications of potential new hires
- compares individual skill levels against job requirements and industry standards
- precisely identifies skill gaps and training needs
- links to the industry’s best sources of technical and non-technical training

How does the CARS Council listen and respond to the needs of the motive power repair and service industry?
We're more than just an organization that speaks on behalf of an industry. What we have to say is a reflection of the input we receive from the employers and employees who work in this sector. Employers and employees are involved at a grassroots level in our projects. They participate through project advisory committees, providing direction and insight, and providing valuable feedback on the development of CARS initiatives at key stages of development. In addition to our regularly published newsletter and other material, we are proud to have a host of interactive online communications tools, including online polls, industry news, and industry surveys. Do I have to join a membership to enjoy the benefits of CARS?
Membership or dues are not required to gain access to all the great benefits that CARS provides. We exist to represent the interests and views of the motive power repair and service industry and to ensure that the industry has access to the best possible human resource development solutions available. Some services are based on fee-for-service charges.
